Pontian Wanton Noodles . Laksa

Pontian Wanton Mee . Laksa

Pontian Wanton Mee is a restaurant that is famous for its Wanton and Laksa noodles. There are many branches located in all around Malaysia and also Singapore. After several discussions, we decided to give that restaurant a try and we eventually picked the branch located in SS2. SS2 is a busy residential area that is often crowded and the parking spaces are also limited.

Once we entered the restaurant, we were instantly being served by one of the waitresses. The decoration of the restaurant was special and unique as the tables and chairs laid out reminded me of our nursery school as it is quite similar to it. Furthermore, the restaurant is fully air-conditioned and there is free Wi-Fi provided. The way they arrange both the look and services are quite systematic and neat. The customer service provided is very efficient.

Inside the restaurant

The menu design was eye catching as it was colorful and the food was well garnished that made the dishes look more appetizing. The menu also provided sufficient details for customers to have a better idea on how the food looks like and the ingredients used. The time taken for the food to be served to our table did not take long. This could be because there weren’t many customers at the time we went.

The restaurant's menu.

For the Wanton noodles, there are three flavors provided, that is pure black sauce, black sauce with chili oil and tomato sauce. We ordered 1 small black sauce Wanton noodle and 1 medium black sauce with chili oil Wanton noodle as this was what we wished to try. There was an additional charge of RM1 for a larger size noodle dish. But we felt that there wasn’t much difference in the quantity served between the small dish and the medium size dish.

For the Wanton noodle, it comes with a few slices of “char siew”, 2 pieces of wet “wanton”(in soup), 2 pieces of dry “wanton” (fried) and some vegetables. The first look of the food was not very enticing as the food wasn’t arranged properly and the side of the bowl was smudged with sauce. The Wanton noodles was quite oily but the saltiness was alright and the texture of the noodle was springy.

Besides that, we also ordered a bowl of Laksa and a plate of fried Wanton as a side dish. The laksa looks more like curry than what it is called. Inside the laksa there is “tau fupok”, fish cake, cockles and hard boiled egg. The laksa tasted very average and we did not see anything special about it. Instead, the fried wanton tasted quite good. Especially when it is eaten together with the mayonnaise and chili sauce provided alongside the fried Wanton. The Wantan skin was not too thick or thin and the filling in it wasn’t too much or too little. It is just nice I would say. The smell was delicious as well when it was first served.

From what we saw in the restaurant, the other customers seem to have enjoyed their meal and they looked satisfied with what they were eating. But in our opinion, there are some negative sides towards the restaurant as well. As an overall, the food there was not bad. We would give it a rating of 2.5-3 out of 5. The price overall was reasonable as they provided us with air cond, free Wifi and good service. It was certainly worth a try.
